Intelli-ion® is an award-winning, patented technology that is designed to completely replace heavy metal and chromate inhibitors or co-blend with phosphate inhibitors. It provides the coatings market with cost-effect, high performance, sustainable anti-corrosive additives.

The smart technology fights corrosion when used in primers with full system barrier topcoats and is compatible with a broad spectrum of resin types, coating types and coatings manufacturing routes.

Key benefits for coatings manufacturers

Intelli-ion® AX1 offers a lower SG (specific gravity) and superior performance to zinc phosphate (ZnP), so the loading of inhibitor in the coatings system is greatly reduced. This can deliver anticorrosive cost savings of 10% to 30% per litre.

Intelli-ion® AX1’s response to corrosion is fast, smart and effective. Active ingredients stay dormant in the micro-reservoir system until they sense corrosion activity and release the inhibitor ‘on demand.’

Intelli-ion® AX1

Incorporation and testing

Incorporation: the technology is designed to replace existing inhibitors without any changes to the manufacturing process. It does not require grinding and can be incorporated via a let-down formula or directly into coatings by high-speed dispersion.

Testing: to effectively evaluate Intelli -ion® it is advised that full coatings systems - with the protective barrier topcoat applied - are tested.
