• Mergal® 530 is cost-effective, providing efficiency with almost instantaneous antimicrobial activity, mitigating interruption, delays and material loss.
• Mergal® 530 degrades quickly after microbial control is achieved, thus posing minimal environmental concern.
• Mergal® 530 is a versatile antimicrobial that can kill in 30 seconds, and is gone in 5 minutes, hence, the “530” within the name. Though the rate of decomposition of DBNPA is extremely rapid, the antimicrobial activity is orders of magnitude faster.
• The quick kill action of Mergal® 530 minimizes downtime & delays due to biocontamination.
• Mergal® 530 begins to break down immediately upon addition to water and/or substrates being treated. The decomposition rate is extremely rapid; DBNPA is one of the very few biocides that meet regulatory criteria for use in one pass cooling systems.
• The decomposition of DBNPA by hydrolysis has been thoroughly researched and reported in literature starting in 1973. Figure 1 shows how the rate of hydrolysis of DBNPA is influenced by both pH and temperature. As these two properties increase, the rate of decomposition increases. After microbial kill is achieved, the short half-life ensures complete degradation for appropriate disposal.
