Dipotassium Phosphate

This highly water soluble salt is used in applications across a wide cross section of industries and commercial processes. Dipotassium phosphate is synthesized via the stoichiometric reaction of phosphoric acid with two equivalents of potassium hydroxide. It is an excellent fertilizer, a food additive, and makes an excellent buffering agent. Furthermore, it is one of the most common sources of phosphorus and potassium in both laboratory and industrial settings. As a food additive, dipotassium phosphate is primarily used in imitation dairy products such as dry creamer, mineral supplements, dry powdered beverages, and starter cultures for cheese. It chiefly serves as an anti-caking agent to prevent coagulation during storage, but it also has uses in buffer solutions used to manufacture trypticase soy agar for culturing bacteria. Industrially, dipotassium phosphate is used as a chemical feedstock in the manufacture of phosphorus and potassium based fertilizers for use in a wide variety of agricultural applications.
