A monomer is a type of molecule that may bind either chemically or super molecularly to other molecules in order to form a polymer. When these monomers work to combine into a polymer, it is a process known as polymerization. If it is a molecule made up of a little amount of monomers, then it is known as oligomers. As it stands now, the industrial usage of monomers is slightly less than what is used to be because of the tight market. There are a lot of benefits to other processes so many industries are switching to that process rather than using monomers. In terms of natural monomers, amino acids and isoprene both fall into that category.
