It is known as 3-hydroxyphenol, rescorcin, m-dihydroxybenzene, asresorcinol and Benzene-1,3-diol, which is its standard name. This chemical compound is made by fusing hyrocarbon secretions of plants or resin with potassium hydroxide. In the medical field, resorcinol is added to various topical treatments for its antiseptic and disinfectant properties. Thus, it is used in many topical medications. As a topical medication, it works by breaking down hardened, scaly and rough skin. It has been used in ointments to treat skin issue like eczema, seborrhea and psoriasis. Many companies use this chemical compound to remove warts, callouses and corns. However, resorcinol's uses don't stop there. It has been incorporated into treatments for acne. Over-the-counter resorcinol preparations generally have lower amounts of resorcinol, in comparison to prescription acne medications. It also may be used in anti-dandruff products, along with various cosmetic items.
