GranuLac®

GranuLac® milled lactose consist of fine, sharp-edged lactose particles, having cohesive powder properties that can be beneficial during granulation processes. Clean, unlubricated surfaces created by brittle fracture during the compaction process lead to improved compactability.

MEGGLE's milled alpha-lactose monohydrate grades have been historically used as diluents in dry and wet granulation processes by numerous global and regional pharmaceutical manufacturers.

The recommended applications for milled lactose grades are:

- Capsule filling
- Dry granulation
- Wet granulation
- Blends, premixes, sachets, triturations
- Enhancement of flavors
- Media for fermentation
- Extrusion-spheronization

MEGGLE has it.

The right milled lactose product for wet and dry granulation

Milled α-lactose monohydrate is available in fine particle size (PS) with narrow particle size distribution (PSD), defined surface properties and density ranges. This allows to modulate in particular a solid formulation’s compactibility, compressibility, porosity, and segregation tendency. Brittle α-lactose monohydrate exhibits good binding properties, and consolidates mainly by fragmentation, but particle flow of milled lactose grades is moderate, depending on size and its corresponding specific surface

MEGGLE’s milled lactose grades suitable for wet and dry granulation are available under the trade names
GranuLac® 70, GranuLac® 80, GranuLac® 140, GranuLac® 200, GranuLac® 230 and SorboLac®400

Particle size distribution
The specified particle size distribution range for MEGGLE's milled lactose grades is as follows:
- GranuLac® 70: <100 µm: 40 - 60%; <400 µm: NLT 95%
- GranuLac® 80: <53 µm: 20 - 42%; <212 µm: NLT 95%
- GranuLac® 140: <32 µm: NMT 40%; <100 µm: NLT 80%
- GranuLac® 200: <32 µm: NMT 45 - 75%; <100 µm: NLT 90%
- GranuLac® 230: <63 µm: NLT 90%
- SorboLac® 400: <32 µm: NLT 90%

These ranges indicate the size of lactose particles in each grade, with the values given in micrometers (µm). The "<" symbol indicates that the particle size is smaller than the specified value, while "NMT" indicates "not more than," and "NLT" indicates "not less than.
