Opamax 56

Thiele Kaolin

Thiele has two distinctly different calcined clays suitable for paint/coating applications. Opamax 16, which is a very fine calcined clay, and Opamax 56, which is a coarse calcined clay. Opamax 56® tends to generate higher scrub resistance values compared to Opamax 16 in flat formulations. This is mainly due to the particle size and product processing conditions. The type of binder as well as the amount of binder can have an impact as well. Other properties of an architectural flat paint may also be marginally affected when exchanging Opamax 56 with Opamax 16. A finer calcined clay tends to generate marginally better sag values and marginally lower leveling values.
